Paediatrics is dentistry that deals with the care and treatment of children’s teeth and at Joffe Dental, we have years of experience in this field. In our view, early detection is vital to preventing tooth decay and maintaining good oral care for children.
At approximately six months, the first primary teeth start to erupt. By the age of two or three, toddlers should have all their primary teeth; yes, all twenty of them. Some of these primary teeth only exfoliate at the age of 10 to 12 years. It is for this reason that good care should be taken of these teeth from the early years.
It is a fact that kids can usually cooperate in the dental chair from the age of three to four years: an age when they possess the ability to understand the reason for a dental visit.
Typically, the first appointment introduces them to the environment and involves a clean or polish of the teeth. In instances where restorative work needs to be done (and the child does not cooperate in the dental chair), consideration will be given to taking the child to the theatre and put under general anaesthetic.
Joffe Dental have helped thousands of children from all ages restore their smiles. To find out more about paediatric dentistry contact us on 011 640 3368 or book an appointment.
